I love
a mini break. There’s nothing better than a cheeky 3-4-day trip to recharge
some batteries, escape to sun and over indulge in good food and wine. I’m
actually preferring mini getaways than week-long holidays, especially in
Europe. Last weekend, my friend and I went to Mallorca, visiting a charming
resort in the South East Coast called Porto Colom. We were only there for 3
days so most of our time was spent relaxing and eating.
Traditionally known as a fishing village, the main feature of Porto Colom is its large natural harbour where you’ll see a number of working fishing boats alongside luxury yachts and speedboats. I loved the quiet, laid back aspect of this town, and even though we went before the busy season, you can tell that it offers a more peaceful setting. If you’re looking to catch up on sleep, read, eat lots and have quiet drinks at local bars, this is the place for you.
We stayed at the lovely Hotel Vistamar who gave us a spacious air conditioned room and balcony, overlooking the port. The weather wasn’t quite warm enough to basque in the sun all day (mid- May) so we got to explore some of Porto Colom’s beautiful beaches, miniature coves and country towns. We of course also made the most out of being so close to the harbour.

We also managed a day trip to Palma where we indulged in Tapas, a spot of shopping and a few hours at the famous
Palma Nova beach. We happened to be there the same weekend of the royal wedding
so found a local bar with a TV and cried like babies! Mini breaks are great because you are forced to
squeeze in as many activities possible in a short space of time. But I totally
get needing that 7, 10 day or even two week holiday, where you can give your
body proper time to unwind and relax. I would definitely visit Porto Colom
again, perhaps somewhere I would take my parents or future family. Top marks from me
